Sophie West is a Memphis-based singer/songwriter. Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, Sophie grew up listening to a wide variety of musical styles, and quickly started singing anywhere and everywhere she could. She studied music as a child and went on to teach for Young Performers International, which gave her the opportunity to study and sing with talented musicians such as Miles Schon, Jeremy Lyon of King Dream Music, Sunshine Becker of Further and Melvin Seals and JGB, and Berklee College of Music professor of voice, Joey Blake. She has performed at well-known Bay Area venues such as Yoshi’s, Slim’s, Café Du Nord, Justin Hermann Plaza, and San Francisco City Hall.
Sophie left California to study Vocal Performance at the University of Colorado in Boulder. During her time in Colorado she fell in love with funk music and sang with numerous local bands including Groovealicious and the Pamlico Sound, performing at events, bars, restaurants, and venues such as Boulder Theater and Fox Theater. She also formed Far Side of the Mountain, a folk/blues/psychedelic rock band.
Since moving to Memphis in early 2020, Sophie connected with Keith Douglas of Tora Tora and the two formed West of Lenox. She looks forward to diving into the Memphis blues and soul music scene and continue to write and perform original music.
